After a 12-hour Championship history going back at least 17 years Rob Townsend (Team Swift) reached number one spot with a winning 291.56 miles in Sunday's 2015 title race in Shropshire. |
TEAM RECORD At the same time he led Team Swift to a Championship and Competition Team Record of 850.49 miles with the backing of second placed Neil Skellern, 282.84 miles, and Joel Wainman, 276.09 Mark Turnbull (TORQ Performance), second last year, claimed third place this time with 281.60 miles. It was Team Swift's fifth collection of the team medals since 2007 with Wainman a member each time. He also won a sixth back in 2001 when he was with Pete Read Racing. Townsend already had three fourth places to his credit, in 1999, 2000 and 2014. |
EARLY LEAD FOR TOWNSEND Townsend took an early lead and at the 100-mile mark he was over seven minutes up on Ian Holbrook (Stone Wheelers) and Marc Turnbull with his 3-58-05. |
TIME UP FOR TOWNSEND Townsend's time ran out with him well in to having completed six laps for that winning 292.45 miles while Skellern and Turnbull were 10 miles behind him, both just short of finishing their fifth lap for their respective medal winning 282.84 miles and 280.50 miles. |
TOO OLD AT 45? In a virtual daze, wet and cold Rob Townsend admitted "I'm loosing it, I'm getting too old for this. I still don't know if I've won (he had). It was hard going I'm not built for these long events, too light and small. When I was told I was 10 minutes clear that put a lot of pressure on me," Townsend said.

With the Merseyside 12 Hour having to be cancelled at the last minute due to unforseen events happening in the aera. Team Swift hosted the Championship event on there own local course and fielded a super strong team. Joel, Rob and Neil covered 842.62 falling Just short of a new Championship record. |
All three 12 Hour Rides contributed to Rob, Joel and Neil retaining Team Swift's British Best all Rounder Title Won the previous year. |
